At this nondescript shrine next to a tree, a Shiva linga appears next to the icon of the mother- goddess resting on a pedestal that is said to represent her brother Pothuraju. This shrine is located in Osmania University. Digital Photograph, Joe Christopher, Hyderabad, 2009.
One of many nondescript shrines located in the busy intersection near the Secunderabad railway station. The shrine is an island in the sea of traffic. Digital Photograph, Alice Samson, Hyderabad, 2009.
There are plenty of shrines like these around the city. Given the absence of explanatory boards or inscriptions, it is very difficult to know to which goddess the shrine is dedicated. On the either side of the entrance of the shrine, images of Pothuraju brandishing a whip are drawn or painted. These shrines are always painted red and yellow. Red stands for kumkum, and yellow for pasupu or turmeric. This shrine is located in Osmania University. Digital Photograph, Alice Samson, Hyderabad, 2008
