Tasveer Ghar: A Digital Archive of South Asian Popular Visual Culture

Dr. Madhuja Mukherjee is Senior Lecturer, with the Dept. of Film Studies, Jadavpur University, Calcutta. She is also Joint Director, The Media Lab., Dept. of Film Studies (a NRTT and JU venture). Her PhD title is The New Theatres Ltd.: ‘The Cathedral of Culture’ and the House of the Popular. It problematises the political-cultural history Bengal, through the study of ‘The New Theatres Ltd.,’ (1931-55). She has received Research fellowships from the NFA1, Pune (1998), Sarai, CSDS, Delhi (2004), and UGC (2006) etc. Currently she is coordinating the research project on Sound Cultures of Indian Cinema: The moment of 1931, for the Media Lab (visit: www.medialabju.org).
